GREENE COUNTY GENERAL 4-H RULES - Explains membership requirements for Greene Co.
1. 4-H membership and activities are open to any boy or girl regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, place of
residence, or religious affiliation, who is an individual in Kindergarten or five years of age to 18 as of January 1 of the
year enrolled in 4-H with a planned series of educational experiences, supervised by a volunteer, and under the direction
of the OSU Extension. Membership eligibility ends December 31 of the calendar year (January I-December 31) in which a member
attains the age of 19 years. Note: Clubs having constitutions must have this nondiscrimination statement included.
2. Each 4-H club must have a least two members and should hold at least eight meetings.
3. 4-H club members should attend at least 75% of the club's meetings (starting from their first meeting).
4. College students are permitted to be 4-H members, if they are not over 18 years of age as of January 1 of the current
year; however, they must attend at least four local 4-H club meetings.
5. All 4-H members must take a project (series of learning experiences).
6. 4-H advisors must be at least 18 years of age and cannot be a member and advisor at the same time.
7. All ages are determined as of January I of the current year.
8. In most cases where Junior and Senior divisions are set, those 4-H members fourteen years of age and older as of January
1 will be in the senior divisions while those members 13 years of age or younger as of January I will be in the junior divisions.
9. To be a Junior Fairboard member, the following qualifications must be met:
a. Be 13 years of age or a freshman in high school or older as of January 1 of the current year .
b. Are required to be a member of a local 4-H club.
10. The Greene County Advisors' handbook will be used as a guide in determining project requirements for competition.
11. Separate projects should be conducted by a 4-H member belonging to both organizations ( 4-H and FFA). For a member
enrolled in both 4-H and vocational agriculture, the following will be considered separate projects: dairy herd management
(cows in production), dairy heifers not freshened, sheep breeding, commercial market lambs, beef breeding, steers, swine breeding,
market hogs (not apart of swine breeding projects). In all cases, different animals are to be carried in vocational agriculture
and 4-H.
12. 4-H or FFA youth exhibitors who exhibit and sell livestock in another county fair, are prohibited from showing and
selling in Greene County .
13. 4-H clubs are to turn in an amount equal to $4.00 per member/per club with their enrollment cards.This project and
activity fee will be used by the 4-H Committee to pay for 4-H awards and programs.
14. All books will be $3.00, except those marked otherwise, after July 1,2003. All book payments will be expected when
books are picked up.
GENERAL NON-LIVESTOCK RULES 1.
All non-livestock projects after being judged are to be left for display during fair week. (Release time will be posted in
the Assembly Building. The Extension Office is not responsible for projects left after release time ). 2. All articles
for exhibit must be labeled with either stick-on or sew-on labels and contain information for identification purposes. Use
stick-on labels for all projects except garments and cloth articles where sew-on labels should be used. Attach the label on
the inside of the garment at the hemline. 3. All members will be interviewed by the project judge during pre-fair or fair
according to the fair schedule. 4. Members receiving first place in a project or division/class will not be eligible to
compete for awards in the same project or division/class the following year. 5. At the discretion of the Extension Agent
and the Committee involved, juniors and seniors in a project may be grouped into one division for awards, or separated into
two divisions. Also, similar projects with small enrollments may be treated likewise. 6. State Fair participants will be
selected by the judge and posted during the fair . 7. All posters will be 22" x 28" on posterboard, unless otherwise stated.
Committee members may need to punch holes in posters in order to hang them for display.
8. Exhibitors will be expected to wear proper
attire during all judging and fair activities. No halter tops, mid-drifts, spaghetti straps, tube tops, T -shirts, shorts,
or hats with writing.

NUTRITION BAKING CONTEST

I. Any 4-H member is eligible to participate in their age division: Beginners (9-11 years as of January 1 ), Intermediate
( 12-14 years ), and Senior ( 15-19 years).
2. Division winners must compete the following year in the next age level.
3. The contest will be held during fair week in the Assembly Building.
4. Participants will prepare the appropriate recipe listed here for their age group.
5. An information packet that will help participants for this contest will be available from the 4-H office.
6. Early registration is needed, additional registrations will be accepted as scheduling permits.
7. Contestants will have 30 minutes to measure, mix, and clean-up. Baking time is not included in the 30 minutes.
8. All preparation, including chopping, shredding, and measuring MUST be done in the 30 minutes.
9. Work table space, ranges, cookie sheets, muffm tins and liners will be provided. All other equipment and supplies
are provided by the 4-Her.
10. Judging will be based on work habits, finished product, knowledge, and personal appearance.
11. Each contestant will receive a participation ribbon. Awards will be presented in each division.
12. Set up time is limited to three minutes.
13. Be sure to adequately space dough on baking sheet. This may mean that you will not use all of your dough.
14. A deduction will be made for going over the three minute set-up time or 30 minute preparation time.

FIRST -AID FOLLIES
- The event will be held during the fair .
- The participant will be given a situation that requires one to administer first-aid.
- The contestant will select the supplies that are required for his or her situation. After gathering
the supplies, the contestant will perform the necessary procedures on the victim.
- Points are based on: 1. Supplies selected. 2. Completing the first-aid procedure in correct order . 3. Time Use.
- First-aid will be given to the victim. This is a "hands on activity."
KING AND QUEEN CONTEST
- The boy or girl must be 16 years of age or older as of January 1.
- A minimum of four years of club work (not counting this year) is required and previous King and Queen
winners are ineligible.
- Each entrant must fill out an application form which will be available from the Extension Office or
Club advisor. Applications are due in July. The date due will be announced. (July 10)
- Dress for the contest will be dress up dress for girls and suit or sport coat for boys.
- Participants will be judged on the following basis:
Afternoon Judging
Poise 10 pts, .Personality 10 pts Responsiveness to Over-all natural appearance 5 pts., Questioning
10 pts., Speaking ability 5 pts., = Total 30 pts.
Project Record 1 0 pts., 4-H activities 15 pts.,Community Activities 5 pts. , Narrative 1 0 pts.= Total
40 pts.
GREENE COUNTY MAKE IT WITH WOOL CONTEST 1. This contest is sponsored by the Greene County
Wool Association. 2 All wool garments exhibited as a 4-H project will compete for cash awards. Placing ribbons will also
be given. 3. Garments will be modeled after the Iamb cook-offon Sunday of the fair. 4. Each participant may enter more
than one garment.
SEWING WITH PIG SUEDE CONTEST I. This contest is sponsored by the Greene County Pork
Council Women. 2. Pig suede may be used for any 4-H clothing project. 3. Only one entry is permitted each year -cash
prizes will be awarded. 4. Pig suede may be purchased from Natalie Pitstick, 951 Clifton Rd, Xenia, Oh (767-1057) or Phyllis
Barr, 1726 Paintersville-New Jasper, Xenia (675-6344). 5. Resource materials are available from the Extension Office.
STYLE REVUES I. All 4-H'ers taking a clothing project to the fair must participate
in the style revues during fair week in order to receive their awards. Modeling will be judged during the style revues. 2.
Style revues will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings. 3. The open modeling contest will be held on Friday evening. 4.
Garments must be worn by the owner with the exception of Sewing for Others.
OPEN MODELING 1. Open modeling will be held on Friday evening of fair week and is open
to anyone related to 4-H. 2. Participants do not have to be carrying a clothing project. 3. Deadline for registering
for Open Modeling is Thursday evening by 9:00 p.m. 4. Categories for Open Modeling on Friday include: Boys and Girls
5 and under Boys and Girls 6-8 Boys and Girls 9-11 Boys and Girls 12-14 Boys and Girls 15-18 Adults -Men and
Women 19 and over Groups -No more than 5 models 5. A model may participate as an individual and/or as a member of only
one group.

GUIDELINE FOR SECRETARY BOOK
- 4-H Club Meeting Roll on pages 6-9 has space for 44 members. Clubs having more than 44 members
should request additional copies of pages to be inserted between 10 & 11.
- The Secretary and the President must sign the minutes of each meeting as can be seen in "The Sample
Minutes" on page 5.
- The Club Constitution should be attached to page 13.
- The Club Program should be attached to page 12.
- The Club Picture will be in the front of the Scrapbook on page 1. The only exception will be for continuous
scrapbooks.
- News Reports are to be kept in the scrapbook. These news reports are to pertain to your club's activities
and your club members 4-H activities.
- Pictures pertaining to your clubs community service projects, camp, etc. are to be kept in the scrapbook.
- The Secretary Book must be handwritten in ink OR TYPED.
- The Secretary's Book Award is given to the top four (2 Sr. and 2 Jr.). 4-H Secretaries in the county
who have kept and completed an outstanding club secretary's book. Books are judged in October.

DEMONSTRATIONS AND ILLUSTRATED TALKS
- Individual or team (two Members) demonstrations may be given. The demonstrations will be judged and
broken down on the following basis:
- 1. Jr. Individual (9-13); Senior Individual (14-18)
- 2. Jr. Team (9-13); Senior Team (14-18)
- 1. Team members can come from different clubs.
- 2. A 4-H member can give a demonstration on any topic.
- 3. Members may repeat the same demonstrations unless they place first in their class in which case
they must give a different demonstration.
- 4. Demonstrations should be between 6-15 minutes in length.
- 5. A maximum of 10 demonstrations will be recognized in each class.
- 6. The judges will select State Fair participants.
- 7. No large animals over 20 lbs. can be used for demonstrations. Small animals must be able to meet
health requirements of either the county or state fair .
- 8. Teams- When team members fall into different age categories, they will participate in Senior Division.
- 9. Early registration is needed: additional registrations will be accepted as scheduling permits.
- **NOTE: Special awards will be made at the State Fair for members using eggs or pork products in their
demonstrations.

NUTRI STARS WIN AT CLOVER FEILD GAME
1. Nutri All Stars is played like a baseball game. When at bat, each player will request a pitch. Players may select
a single, double, triple or home run question. In an inning each team must draw one single, one double, one triple and one
home run question. Nutri All Stars will have 3 innings with three outs per inning. There will be no strikes or balls. A
missed question is an out.
2. There will be a maximum of five teams with up to 10 players per team.
3. Each particioant will receive a participation ribbon and the first place team will receive awards.
4. Early registration is suggested, additional registration will be accepted as space permits.
5. Teams will be selected to reflect a range of ages on each team.
6. RULE OF 10 - When a team scores 10 runs in one inning the next team will be allowed to bat even though the previous
team did not strike out.
